Lucy is the herd
matriarch. She is the founder of our herd, and her
genetics can be traced back in every one of our
goats. She is a wide, powerful girl, standing on
excellent feet and legs. Her impressive width is
carried all the way through into her mammary system.
She had an extremely high, wide udder that produced
well over a gallon a day. However, a case of
mastitis damaged her beautiful mammary, and she now
only has use of half her udder. In spite of that,
she still holds her own in the milk parlor at age
10, giving the other does a run for their money in
milk production. She has and will continue to hold a
very special place in our herd.
Due to her
damaged udder, Lucy has no show or appraisal record.
She has been a valuable brood doe, and we currently
have two of her daughters in the herd. Now
approaching the age of 11, we feel that it is time
for her to retire and do not plan on breeding her. |
