Merry was an
unanticipated purchase from DeVillery
Farm. Merry is a tall, long doe with a high, wide
escutcheon. She has a good shoulder assembly
blending into beautiful feet and legs.
Not only does she have a pretty frame, but she is
very wide throughout while being well balanced with
dairy strength. While lacking some depth to the
barrel at this time, we expect her to fill out when
she comes into milk next spring!
Merry
freshened this year, and boy did she impress us!
Appraising less than two weeks after kidding, the
appraiser awarded her with a score of 89 (VEVE), the
highest possible for a first freshener! Her mammary
is simply gorgeous with an extremely high, wide rear
udder, beautiful attachment down the legs, and
excellent extension to the fore. Merry is also
milking up a storm! We did not weigh her milk at the
peak of her lactation, but at the beginning of
September her milk weights came in at about 10 pounds
a day. Her kids are stunning, with
her daughter Constance completely dominating the
shows.
As a second freshener, Merry is continuing to
be one of our strongest does. Her udder is at its
best yet! We are hoping that this year she will be
able to better compensate her high production with
more body capacity. Otherwise, she is perhaps our
must stunning doe!
With three freshenings
under her belt and a set of jumbo-size triplets this
year, Merry has become the highest producing doe in
our herd, milking over 16 pounds a day! She has also
become one of our most successful brood does,
consistently reproducing outstanding kids who have
gone on to win many awards in the show ring.
However, Merry herself has not been able to attend
any shows recently due to her heavy lactations, and
this year we decided to dry her off early in the
hopes that she will gain back some weight. |
