After watching how the Asteria/Constantine
kids turned out the year before, there was not a
doubt in my mind that we were keeping a doe kid from
that cross. Andromeda is the product of that repeat
breeding, and she is more than I could have hoped
for. She excels in all areas of the scorecard, being
impressively deep and wide throughout like her dam,
open in the ribbing, and having a wide, flat rump.
She stands on an excellent set of feet and legs, has
that classic Constantine shoulder assembly, and is
very wide and open between her hocks and up into the
escutcheon. Unfortunately, she did not get out to
any shows as a little baby, as our show string was
very limited. However, I am excited to see her strut
her stuff in 2020!
Andromeda made it out to the
Carrollton Classic in spring of 2020 and managed to
hold her own in a practically National level show.
This one is living up to our expectations and more,
and I cannot wait to see her fresh!
Andromeda had a bit of a rough
time in 2021. After rupturing the ligaments at the
back of the knee in one of her front legs while she
was several months pregnant, we made the decision to
have her undergo life-altering orthopedic surgery in
the hopes she would recover enough to be able to
continue leading an at least relatively normal life.
The road to recovery was long and her milk test
records reflect that, but I am happy to say that she
is practically back to her normal bossy self aside
from her now-fused front knee! While she will never
see the show ring again, she will remain here as a
very valuable brood doe and continue to participate
in the performance programs that are open to her.
Andromeda freshened again in
2022, and I am happy to report that she carried her
pregnancy with ease and kidded without issue despite
her having had orthopedic surgery. When brought out
for a partial LA score, the appraiser had many
positive things to say about her and awarded her a
partial score of -EEV! Her 2022 retained daughter,
Cassiopeia, won her dry leg easily in the first ring
she walked into at 5 months of age. Andromeda
remains a valuable brood doe in our breeding
program. |
